  • Caring for our Thoroughbreds During and After Their Racing Career
    06/18/08: Retired NYRA Gate Starter (and ?horse whisperer?) Robert Duncan and Thoroughbred Retirement Foundation Executive Director, Diana Pikulski, will guest speak at the monthly Parting Glass Racing meeting on Thursday, June 26, 2008 at 7:00 p.m. at The Parting Glass Pub, 40 Lake Avenue, Saratoga Springs, New York. In light of the recent in the wake of the Eight Belles tragedy and mounting public criticism of the thoroughbred racing sport, the presentation will focus on how we can best care for our thoroughbreds during and after their racing career.

  • NYRA President/CEO to Guest Speak at PGR Meeting
    05/20/08: New York Racing Authority (NYRA) President/CEO, Charlie Hayward, will guest speak at the monthly Parting Glass Racing meeting on Thursday, May 22, 2008 at 7:00 p.m. at The Parting Glass Pub, 40 Lake Avenue, Saratoga Springs, New York. NYRA has managed thoroughbred racing in New York at the Aqueduct, Belmont, and Saratoga Racetracks since 1955. Mr. Hayward will explain the resolution of the franchise agreement reached in early 2008 for NYRA to continue racetrack management for another 25 years. He will also detail the current status of the VLT issue, discuss the excitement of the Belmont Stakes and how NYRA plans to manage the event, unveil the ?new NYRA?, and talk about what?s new for 2008 Saratoga Racetrack meet.
  • PGR Local Hero Dave Named NYTB 2007 Turf Champion
    05/14/08: Parting Glass Racing and Saratoga Spring?s local hero, Dave enjoyed an exciting two days this week, earning purse money on Sunday, May 11th and kudos on Monday, May 12th. On Mother?s Day, Dave ran 2nd in an aggressive Belmont Kingston Handicap with Eibar Coa aboard, increasing his lifetime earnings to a whopping $575,332. On Monday, New York Thoroughbred Breeders (NYTB) named Dave the Champion Turf Male of 2007. That same night, Eibar Coa, Dave?s Kingston Handicap jockey, was named NYTB?s 2007 Jockey of the Year. Another of Parting Glass Racing?s hero?s, the now-retired Cute Cognac, was nominated in the NYTB 2007 Female Turf Champion and 3-year-old Filly Champion categories.

  • PGR Boasts Two Nominees for NY-Bred Champions
    03/13/08: Parting Glass Racing boasts two of their stable roster who have been nominated by the New York Thoroughbred Breeders (NYTB) for prestigious recognition as 2007 NY-Bred Champions. The nominations are an honor bestowed on those New York Bred racehorses who have demonstrated superior ability in their respective categories. The winners are selected by majority vote of New York State Turf Writers and will be named at the annual NYTB awards banquet in May.

  • Harvey Pack to Speak at PGR Meeting
    11/20/07: Parting Glass Racing will host guest speaker and legendary handicapper/author Harvey Pack at the Parting Glass Racing meeting on Thursday, November 15, 2007 at 7:00 p.m. at The Parting Glass Pub, located at 40 Lake Avenue, Saratoga Springs, New York. The meeting is free and open to the public.
  • Dave highlighted in Mike Veitch DRF Column
    11/16/07: Saratogian Columnist Mike Veitch posted an article about Parting Glass Racing's Dave winning the Grade 2 Red Smith Handicap on November 10th at Aqueduct Racetrack. Dave's win makes it 24 Parting Glass Stable's New York-bred Dave won the Grade 2 Red Smith Handicap, his first graded victory.
  • PGR's Dave Wins Red Smith Handicap at Aqueduct
    11/10/07: Local owners Parting Glass Racing enjoyed a spectacular Grade 2 win at Aqueduct Racetrack on Saturday, November 10, 2007 when Dave won the $150,000 Red Smith Handicap with Jersey Joe Bravo aboard. As described by Rab Hagin at www.nybreds.com, ?Dave captured the 2007 running by employing a dominating outside stretch run over yielding turf, and enjoyed an almost perfect trip on a course where he always performs well at a distance he obviously loves. Victory in the Red Smith boosted Dave's earnings by $90,000 to $538,792 while improving his record to 7 - 10 - 3 in 35 starts, which includes four stakes victories -- three against New York-breds at Belmont (twice) and Saratoga.?

  • Cute Cognac is a Stakes Winner!
    10/25/07: October 20th at Belmont Park was a day that all horse owners dream about...a healthy horse, ideal weather, a table on the finish line, a perfect ride, and an exhilarating finish that crowned PGR's Cute Cognac a Stakes-winning princess! Those of us who watched the race live at Belmont toasted the moment with Barclay Tagg and Robin Smullen. It does not get much better than that!
  • Mark Cusano & Kyle Brownell to hold Handicap Clinic at PGR Meeting
    10/15/07: Parting Glass Racing will hold a Breeders? Cup Handicapping Clinic with Mark Cusano of OTB?s ?Down the Stretch? and Kyle Brownell, OTB handicapper, at the Parting Glass Racing meeting on Thursday, October 25, 2007 at 7:00 p.m. at The Parting Glass Pub, located at 40 Lake Avenue, Saratoga Springs, New York. Mark and Kyle will provide their handicapping expertise and take questions about handicapping the 2007 Breeders? Cup at Monmouth Park on Saturday, October 27th. The meeting is free and open to the public.

  • PGR Wins 2 for 2 on 'Super Sunday'
    09/19/07: Parting Glass Racing enjoyed two spectacular wins at Belmont Racetrack on Sunday, September 16, 2007. First, filly Cute Cognac won the 6th race with Eibar Coa aboard in a turf allowance for state-bred fillies and mares, demolishing a field of foes. This was her second win in four starts, with earnings of $75,000. Dave won the 9th race, the $100,000 Ashley T. Cole Handicap, with Alan Garcia aboard. As described by Rab Hagin at www.nybreds.com, Dave won by ?overtaking 7 rivals in the final three furlongs to win Belmont's Ashley T. Cole Handicap for New York-bred three-year-olds and up going a mile and an eighth on the inner turf, prevailing by less than two inches.? The breathtaking photo finish shows the win by a whisker. Dave?s lifetime earnings now approach the $500,000 mark.

  • Track Talk LIVE with PGR's Tom Gallo
    07/18/07: Track Talk LIVE!, a new radio program, with Parting Glass Racing founder and managing owner Tom Gallo in the booth and Saratoga Special publisher and author Sean Clancy on the backstretch, will air Saturday July 28th at 9:00 a.m. The 60-minute program will be heard in New York?s capital district on 1160 AM Moon Radio and on the web at http://www.saratogamoon.com/index.htm. The show will be heard every Saturday morning from 9 to 10 a.m. on July 28th, August 4th, August 11th, August 18th, August 25th, and September 1st. Each show will include 4 distinct segments including Saratoga Racetrack news and events, celebrity guests in the booth with Tom taking calls from listeners, live jockey and trainer interviews with Sean Clancy on the backstretch, and handicapping with Daily Racing Form?s Andy Serling.

    07/18/07: NYRA Racing Secretary P.J. Campo will guest speak at the Parting Glass Racing meeting on Thursday, July 26, 2007 at 7:00 p.m. at The Parting Glass Pub, located at 40 Lake Avenue, Saratoga Springs, New York. Also scheduled to speak is Jonelle Fisher, biographer of legendary trainer Mack Miller in, ?The Gentleman Trainer from Morgan Street.? Clancy's new book, Barbaro: the Horse Who Captured America's Heart, chronicles Barbaro's story and pays tribute 'to a horse who made us think, who made us cry, and who made us believe.' The meeting is free and open to the public.

    05/04/07: Renowned columnist Mike Veitch highlighted the Freud progeny in a recent DRF.com article. PGR's This Angel Has Wings partnership owns the 2005 filly by Freud out of Axspect.

  • Relocation of Parting Glass Racing Office to Saratoga Springs
    03/13/07: Parting Glass Racing has relocated its headquarters to downtown Saratoga Springs, New York, announced managing member Thomas J. Gallo. Their new address is 73 Henry Street, Saratoga Springs, NY 12866, just a few doors from The Parting Glass Pub owned by Parting Glass Racing co-founder Joan Desadora.
  • Kentucky Derby Winter Book Handicapping Series, Panel #2
    03/09/07: The handicappers will discuss and handicap one of the best kept betting secrets in the world of horseracing: the 'Kentucky Derby Future Wagers'.
